What is corporate welfare?
The corporate welfare is a range of services offered to employees by companies, particularly medium-sized and large ones, and in some cases also by small businesses. These services are provided to employees in order to improve their quality of life. e that of their families.
What is the purpose of corporate welfare?
The aim of corporate welfare is to enhance the overall quality of life of a company’s employees, not only in the workplace, and to foster a more balanced and stable relationship between employees and the company.Corporate welfare therefore serves to improve employees’ lives and his family, but also to make the relationship between the employee and the company more long-lasting.
What’s more, corporate welfare also serves to to the company, in order to make it more attractive to a potential employee, particularly when it is looking to recruit staff on permanent or fixed-term contracts (for a reasonable period of time). During job interviews, Human Resources managers often outline the company’s welfare scheme to potential employees, so that they have the option to make a decision based on the list of goods and services available in the plan itself, perhaps by comparing it with the plans put forward by the candidate’s rivals.
This rationale has become very important in certain sectors, particularly following the national shortage of skilled workers in sectors such as catering, hospitality, services and the voluntary sector.
What welfare benefits are available to employees?
Generally speaking, corporate welfare may include “benefit”, that is to say health benefits, support for family members in difficulty, at the culture, at travel e leisure, at the well-being and to the sport, but also the possibility of vouchers for the purchase of essential items. There are many ways in which a company can implement a welfare scheme for its employees, and The list or selection of available benefits depends on these options for the employees themselves.
What benefits are included in a corporate welfare scheme?

I Fringe benefits are “additional benefits” that are treated as part of the main remuneration of the employee. In other words, they are a remuneration in kind granted by the employer, which may take the form either of a sum of money shown on the payslip alongside the salary (but only in the case of reimbursement for utility bills), or of goods and services.
What vouchers or fringe benefits will I be eligible for in 2026?
The fringe benefits that may be included in a company welfare scheme and which an employee may be entitled to in 2026 include, amongst the most common, for example:
Meal vouchers that is to say fixed-amount payment methods which are issued to employees in place of the company canteen. Digital meal vouchers show the face value and the name of the employee receiving them; they may also be issued in paper form and are not convertible into cash – in other words, the employer cannot pay the employee in “cash”. They can be used to purchase both food and meals at participating outlets and supermarkets, and the person using them may top them up with cash.
Vouchers: Fringe benefits may also be provided to employees in the form of vouchers. In such cases, the provision of goods or services – including on a recurring basis – by the employer takes the form of the issue of proof of identity (in paper or electronic form), bearing a face value, that is, they bear a fixed figure indicating their monetary value. This means that the vouchers bear the name of the employee receiving them and are equivalent to a payment in the pay packet.
The following should be taken into account “Fringe Benefit” as well as the following:
- Company car, which is provided to the employee “for mixed use”, that is, both for work purposes and for personal use;
- Work telephone, if it is also used for personal purposes.
- Utility bills: The following are also considered “Fringe Benefits 2026” for employees: household customers, such as electricity, water and gas bills for properties owned by the employee, their spouse or their family members.

- Properties let, held for use or on loan, that is, properties allocated to employees on a lease, for use or on loan, to enable them to carry out their work more easily in accordance with their job description.

How much can I spend from my welfare plan in 2026?
The amount allocated by the company to each employee depends on how much the company – whether through collective bargaining or independently – decides to make available to its employees, namely to all permanent staff and fixed-term staff who meet the eligibility criteria.
As regards the section on Flexible Benefits which forms part of a company’s welfare scheme, the employee may spend the entire amount on goods and services that the company makes available to all eligible employees. The company may make available to its employees, as additional remuneration – or as a Flexible Benefit – an amount determined in accordance with the welfare scheme adopted, in compliance with the applicable tax and contractual provisions.
As regards the section on Fringe Benefits However, there is a statutory limit on the components of a company’s welfare scheme: as fringe benefits are treated as part of the salary for tax purposes, the Government sets a specific spending threshold, which may change over time and is determined by current legislation.
The legislation currently in force provides for Fringe Benefits the following tax exemption thresholds for 2026:
Up to 1,000 euros for all employees.
Up to 2,000 euros for employees with dependent children for tax purposes.
The thresholds are confirmed for the three-year period 2025–2027. This limit also includes sums paid towards or as reimbursement for domestic water, electricity and gas bills, as well as rent for a primary residence and interest on a mortgage relating to a primary residence, in accordance with the conditions laid down by the legislation.
How do I spend my welfare credit?
It is the company’s responsibility to inform their employees, either directly or through trade union representatives, what the company’s welfare scheme consists of, namely how much you can spend for employees and how is it possible for employees to spend their corporate welfare credit.
Many companies draw up their own Corporate Welfare Plan using specific guidelines Welfare Platforms, that is to say, the websites accessible only to staff of the company, using personal login details issued by the company itself, where they can access their “profile”, which contains the information required to use the welfare credit (for example, whether or not the employee has dependent children).
Inside the their own profile on these platforms, employees already find that claim your welfare credit, often referred to as a “wallet” or “welfare account”, that is to say, the the amount allocated to each employee, which is already available for spending in the goods and services available on the platform.
What is a Corporate Welfare Platform?
A corporate welfare platform is a portal designed to enable companies to to provide the benefits and services set out in its Welfare Plan to all its employees. On the Corporate Welfare Platforms, employees can use the welfare credit provided for under the Company Plan, including via their Welfare Account, if this has been set up by the company in agreement with the trade unions.
How do corporate welfare platforms work?
Each platform has its own navigation methods and a different user experience, but they all share common features that make them usable. In particular, corporate welfare platforms must have
- Individual access for each employee, with personal login details
- The employee’s profile contains key details that may affect their “fringe” benefit thresholds (such as whether they have dependent children and other similar details).
- A dashboard or digital display interface where employees can always see how much welfare credit they have available to spend, calculated on the basis of their personal circumstances;
- Some platforms inform employees of the maximum amount of their welfare credit that can be spent whilst benefiting from fringe benefits, in accordance with the regulations for the current year; they never specify the spending limits for Flexible Benefits, because the only limits in that case are determined by the amount the company decides to allocate to its employees, up to 0.5% of the total expenditure on employee costs;
- They allow you to choose from a range of services that can be accessed as Fringe or as Flexible Benefits;
- Some platforms, in line with the timetable set out in the welfare scheme of the company to which they are linked, allow employees to spend their welfare credit by November each year.
- Some platforms, in line with the timetable for the annual national Budget Act, allow employees to spend their welfare credit from the moment the incumbent government sets the spending thresholds for fringe benefits – usually in conjunction with the Budget Act itself – at the start of each year (February–March each year).

By when do I have to use up my welfare credit?
Some platforms, in line with the terms of the welfare scheme of the company to which they are linked, allow employees to spend their welfare credit by November each year. In some cases, however, it is possible to spend your welfare credit every day of the year, particularly if it is of the ‘Flexible’ type, i.e. an additional benefit on top of your salary. This depends primarily on the tax and accounting obligations of the company offering the welfare scheme, which often requires time to calculate tax deductions from the company’s income; consequently, payments are suspended whilst the necessary calculations are carried out.
Can I reclaim my credit or welfare benefits if I didn’t manage to use them in time?
Welfare credit, that is, the welfare benefits provided by the company to its employees under the Corporate Welfare Plan, must be spent within the spending window set out in the Plan itself, which coordinates the allocation of funds and the availability for expenditure or use of goods and services by the employee, including on the Welfare Platforms. If an employee does not make use of their welfare benefits within the spending window set out in the company’s Welfare Plan for the current year on the welfare platform (or even directly), will not be able to carry them forward or use them in the following year.
What are welfare discount platforms?
A company’s welfare scheme is designed to ensure a better quality of life and greater wellbeing for its employees, and may involve direct or indirect measures taken by the company itself. Increasingly, companies are adopting benefits management platforms for their corporate welfare schemes (fringe o flexible), but also discount platforms: a way of enabling employees to access marketplaces closed to the general public, where they can find goods, experiences and services at significantly reduced prices.
The wide range of products, the substantial discounts on offer and the availability of exclusive items make these discount marketplaces an effective benefit that the company can offer its employees by providing them with exclusive login details.
